Antique 1700's Russian Mother Of God Icon Oil Painting Canvas Wood Frame OLD!
The item up for offer is a beautiful antique Russian icon oil painting which dates from the 1600's to the late 1700's. This piece depicts The Blessed virgin Mother of God and young Jesus. A very unique feature of this piece is the diamond shaped symbol is right above the raised hand of the baby Jesus. This symbol looks like a jewel, and appears to have some writing written in Russian. Another very interesting aspect of this piece is the material used. Unlike typical Icons, this piece is an oil painting on canvas set on a wood frame. The frame is original to this piece.
This piece was acquired from a Philadelphia Mainline Estate sale of a very wealthy and old Russian family. It was appraised as being worth $3500 by Heritage Auction Appraisal in Philadelphia.

Condition:
The canvas: The canvas part of this piece is in very good condition for its age. The canvas is intact and does not appear to be coming undone, there is slight fraying at the edges. The painting has a dark color, this is most likely soot from being hung near a candle or fireplace. This can be cleaned off by someone with knowledge of restoration work. I have not done any restoration work in order to preserve the integrity of this piece. I bet it will be beautiful when cleaned!
The Frame: The wood frame is in delicate condition. The frame is cracked and broken through somewhat in several spots. It has been lightly reinforced by the black metal braces, and the white restoration tape. The canvas has begun to lift from the frame on the bottom and up to the right side. The canvas can be secured when it is framed.
