Antique 18th C Pair French Engravings Wood Framed Rococo Art JBC Chatelain 1772
We are offering a pair of framed engravings by Jean Baptiste Claude Chatelain published by Mondhare, after original paintings by L Le Brun. These pieces are from 1772, and depict romantic scenes between two couples: one in a parlor with a harp and the other reclining on a bed. These pieces show quintessential Rococo fashion and architecture. The pieces measure 8.5” x 12.5”, and the frames 14” by 18”. This pair is the perfect addition to any collection.
They are both hand watercolored.
The engravings are marked “Peinte Gouasse par L Le Brun” (Gouache(?) Painted by L Le Brun) and “Grave par JBC Chatelain en 1772” (Engraved by JBC Chatelain in 1772). One is titled “L’École De L’Amour” (The School of Love) and the other “Le Maître De Musique” (The Master of Music”. Both have text that, translated into English, reads “Dedicated to the Count of Steni by his very humble and very obedient servant Mondhare/ At Paris in Mondhare St Jacques Street near St Severin”.
Excellent condition. The paper is yellowed with age, but this is to be expected and cannot be prevented- the color has survived remarkably well.
