ANTIQUE CHINESE VINTAGE FRENCH COLOR ENGRAVING ON SILK PRINT WOOD FRAMED ASIAN
Offered here is a beautiful framed antique Chinese color wood engraving on silk print. "Portrait of a Dignitary's Wife" from the Ch'ing Dynasty (1644-1912), this unusual technique is stunning, full of nacreous color reflected by the sateen of the silk. Delicate details can be found in the kimono's folds, with rich patterns and ceremonial symbols.
The print is double matted, preserved in a gilt wooden frame with hints of boulle showing underneath. This print came out of a rare book published by Edizioni Beatrice D'Este, the plate information and publisher was cut out of the book and attached to the back of the frame.
Marked "Portrait of a dignitary's wife, CH'ING DYNASTY(1644-1912), Edizioni Beatrice D'Este, Ars Et Serica".
Item is in good condition, with some aging and wear to the silk from the years.
Framed piece measures approximately 17 1/4" long, 11 1/2" wide, 1/2" thick. Live space of print is 6 1/4" wide, 11 3/4 long. Frame itself is 1/2" wide. First mat is 1 1/2" wide, second is 3/4" wide.
