ITEM:
An extremely unusual, early 1960's Vintage Califone Corporation SP 30 The Music Monitor/Tube Guitar Amp~LoFi Fuzz God~RARE AMP~Built in Hollywood, CA, USA.
DESCRIPTION:
What a cool & visually stunning mid-century piece this amp is. Califone was/is a California based company that primarily produced audio gear for classroom/instruction settings. Those items include (but are not limited to): amplifiers, reel to reel tape recorders, personal record players, headphones, etc. This particular example was exactly what it's namesake claims to be; a monitor....before we had out tech convert it into a "traditional" all in one 6 to 7 Watt musical instrument tube amplifier.
I repeat: This amp is a LoFi GOD. It possesses the kind of tonal quality people build their signature sound around. It has the kind of fuzzy distortion that makes me think of Proto-Metal, California Desert Rock generator shows, 80's punk, and the under-served segment of the 90's Seattle grunge scene, all at the same time.
It's small, it's simple, it's uncomplicated, it's not winning any beauty pageants, and it sounds disgusting.
I love it.
This would make fantastic studio and live amp. Includes an external speaker output to expand the audio for those live shows when you need some extra volume.

CONDITION
We consider this amp to be in excellent working and cosmetic condition; especially for such a rare unit. Was recently serviced and converted by our esteemed audio cat to a tube amplifier. Installed an external speaker jack on the rear panel, & new input terminals were installed. Original power cable was removed & replaced with a modern IEC power terminal. Much safer. All capacitors were replaced. Tolex(or whatever the amp case covering is called) is in good condition, but has age related wear and discoloration. Handle on top is tight and in good condition, which tends to be a rarity of most vintage gear with a handle. Speaker cover "mesh" is also in good condition.
