ITEM:
Here's yet another piece of "not your typical MIJ mid 1960's electric bass guitars": A 1960s Rexina Kawai Teisco Short Scale Electric Bass Guitar in a stunning tri tone brown sunburst finish exuding lots of natural mojo. This bass was subjected to a quickie VIDEO recently so please take a look.
DESCRIPTION:
Offset double cutaway body with a bolt on short scale neck, making this very comfortable to play. She features a solid ash body, mahogany neck with a bound 20 fret rosewood fingerboard with MOP dot inlays, a mother of toilet seat pick guard with a matching truss rod cover, 4 on one side individual sealed tuning machines with slightly oversized chrome buttons, 2 chrome single coil pick ups with adjustable pole pieces, 2 rocker PUP selector switches, 1 volume & 1 tone control, string length adjustable bridge w chrome cover, & 2 original strap buttons. All components appear to be fully original.
CONDITION:
Overall, axe is in good to very good condition, showing multiple nicks, scratches, edge wear, minimal paint loss, & missing her wooden finger(thumb?) rest on the upper treble bout side. Unfortunately, we have no case with this axe, but if we can find something in the interim we will certainly include it with the sale. We're always looking for cases, so we may just find one for this.
Bass underwent a full professional set up including new strings stretched & installed, a full interior & exterior cleaning, various adjustments to the bridge & intonation, the whole she-bangabang, as usual. The bridge cover plate & the bridge were both slightly moved back & both of the rocker switches were re-constructed.
All work was performed by Dave Fecca Guitar Repair, Moorestown, NJ. Dave, aka “Catfish”, along with his spouse, April Mae, are the co-founders of April Mae & The Junebugs, a very popular & accomplished Americana/Roots/Jump Blues, Rockabilly, etc, band which has recorded & performed extensively throughout the US since 2010.

This was recorded using an iPhone 14 Pro using only natural diffused light & this Rexina MIJ Bass guitar was played amplified using a Bogen/Challenger Amplifier Co. Converted from a PA to an 8 Watt Guitar Head thru a vintage Lafayette 4 X 10" Jensen loaded speaker cabinet, unmic'ed and without any effects. Guitar was demo'd by our friend & professional musician, guitarist & teacher, the inimitable David Kelly. Dave played this axe in the front room at our bricks & mortar shop, Ellis Antiques. Although Dave's meat & potatoes is guitar & mandolin, he made an effort to show y'all how this puppy sounds. Sure hope you enjoy his low end bass pluckin' !
Shipping insurance is included. Instrument will be boxed in a heavy, new box & will be shipped via USPS, FedEx or UPS. Or, this can be picked up locally at our physical bricks and mortar shop in Collingswood, NJ 08108.
