Antique 1890s Studio Portrait – Matriarch & Seven Women – Framed, Campbell’s Mount
Here we have a late 19th-century studio portrait featuring an older seated woman/matriarchal figure surrounded by seven younger women, likely her daughters. Photographed in a high-end studio setting with ornate architectural backdrop, heavy curtain, and a carved, ornate, lion-head posing chair—common to upper-class portraiture of the 1890s.
Likely gelatin silver print on period cardstock (we have not opened the frame).
Marked with an original Campbell’s Art Store label (1126 Harford Ave., Baltimore, MD) on reverse, with “Wolfe 4520-J”.
This is not seem to be a mass-market image, but a formal, commissioned portrait likely depicting a prominent family of the era. An exceptional example of Victorian-era portrait. Please closely examine all photos for detail.
