Antique Aesthetic Period Victorian EJDB Bodley Pottery HP Demitasse Teacup & Saucer Staffordshire
A fine example of an Antique Aesthetic Period Victorian demitasse teacup and saucer set from Edwin James Drew Bodley (Hill Pottery/Crown Works), c.1885-1890, manufactured in Burslem, Staffordshire, England, UK. White base ceramic features a hand-painted brown design around both the interior saucer and cup's upper walls. Pattern is Aesthetic Period -like, banded and symmetrical in fashion, with a thin gold gilding around the rims. Uniquely shaped, footed saucer shows a traditional C-handle. Similar blue hallmarks on both pieces and an additional impressed mark on the saucer.
Saucer measures 4 5/8" in Diameter x 1/2" High. Teacup measures 3" Long (including handles; 1 7/8" interior Diameter) x 2 1/2" High.
Very good. Free of cracks, hairlines, or crazing. Minimal color fading and rub-wear around the gold trims. Surface yellowing does show on the top of the handle and on the cup's bottom edge. Strong hallmarks.
