Antique Black Basalt Teapot –Unmarked (Possibly Wedgwood) Circa Early 19th Century

This striking antique teapot is crafted in the black basalt style, featuring fine neoclassical relief decoration. The body is richly detailed with classical figures, leaf and laurel garland motifs and a lid is finished with with a bold finial knob.

Though unmarked, the workmanship and style are reminiscent of Wedgwood black basalt stoneware. It's possible it could be a very early unmarked piece, but cannot confirm. We believe the piece to be manufactured in the late 1700s - early 1800s.

Dimensions: 9 1/2" L (spout to handle) x 4 1/2" W x 6" H with lid (5" without lid)

Condition: Good antique condition overall, with age-appropriate wear. Spout shows a chip to the tip (see photos). No visible maker’s mark. There is a semi hidden small crack in the handle. The handle feels strong and intact, however, we recommend handling with great care.
