We are offering an antique Georgian English sewing box, measuring about 7.5 W ” x 5.5”deep x 6.5”H with compartments inside the lid and two drawers. The wood veneer is a rare Amboyna wood.
Circa 1790 to 1820's
All the Georgian metal pieces are intact, including the keyhole and one decorative keyhole beside, four French style feet, two rings for handles, and four drawer flower pulls. The side handles are in the shape of flower baskets. The wood is finished in varnish that gives it a unique finish over the figural wood. The top compartment and drawers are lined in pale blue paper, as was the fashion of the time.
Not a heavy box.

The original key is included, but the locking mechanism will require some TLC. Rare to have a key with something this old. The color varies as age and sunlight has mellowed the finish! The pictures sho different color variations.
Very good condition with some expected age-related wear. The varnish is coming up in places and there are some small chips to the wood along the edge along the lid. One foot is cracked but not in a way that will damage the integrity of the piece.
