Antique Nippon NPSK Hand Painted Portrait Comport Compote Moriage Jeweled Rococo

Royalty- Prussian Queen?

Offered here is an antique pre‒Nippon NPSK Queen royalty portrait comport or compote that was made at some point in the 1880s. The Nagoya Potteries company operated only briefly before shutting down which makes beautiful pieces such as this one quite rare. This compote is decorated in a rococo type design with rich gold moriage and elaborate scrollwork. Six equally spaced large and small sections with hand painted flowers. The veiled woman in the center was done in transfer. Overall one of the more luxurious and rare pieces that we’ve seen.

Measures 9 1/2” Diameter x 4 3/8” High

Very good condition! A few small smudges/discolorations on the face near the bottom when looking at the item with the woman right side up. One small crack at the base which looks like it was a kiln imperfection. No crazing. Small chip on underside of base where foot contacts the table. Minimal wear from age. See photos.

Marked with a green symbol of a shield and crown in a wreath with the letters “NPSK” written inside. See photos.
