Antique Nouveau Gorham VERSAILLES Sterling Chipped Ice Pierced Serving Spoon - Agriculture Goddess
Antique Art Nouveau sterling silver pierced serving spoon in the Versailles pattern, Greek/Roman inspired , c. last half of the 19th century, USA. Both sides of the handle are fully decorated in relief work and feature a heavy dose of scrolls, several portions of flowers, and a large figural depiction of either the Greek or Roman goddess of agriculture (Demeter or Ceres). Serving end is perfectly round, elaborately pierced, and is approximately 5/8" deep. Handle back shows a monogrammed "E". Back of serving end impressed with the three Gorham hallmarks and "Sterling".
Piece measures 8 1/2" Long. Serving end measures 3 1/4" in Diameter.
Weighs 2.815 ozt or 87.5 grams.
Very good, pre-owned condition. One ever-so-tiny ding on the serving end's rim. Surface scratching and swirling on bowl's interior. Specks of dark wear in between some of the crevices on the raised handle design but mostly sharp and distinguishable.
