Antique Nouveau HP Sevres Porcelain Purple Iris Flower Rimmed Soup Bowl France
Antique Art Nouveau hard paste porcelain rimmed soup bowl from the Sevres factory in France. A lovely circular band of handpainted purple iris flowers and accompanying green vines line the bowl's interior edge. Decoration is heavily gilded, showing an ornate and fancy exterior trim along with a similarly fashioned, six-pointed starburst central pattern. Thinly-striped fuchsia pink lines outline the plate's outer trim. Thick and broad gilding on bowl's exterior rim. Underside shows an overglaze dark red studio/decorators mark reading "H. Vignier Fabt. H. Pochet Sucr, GG. R.J.J. Rousseau.Paris". Artist signed appears to read "L. (P/J)enn".
Measures exactly 9 1/4" in Diameter x 1 5/8" High.
Good to very good. Light cosmetic wear shows to the gold gilding and central decoration. The painted purple flower decoration is dark and strong. A 5/8" slice chip is seen on the plate's exterior rim (picture 8). Backside shows some dark surface rubbing on bottom. Plate is not marked with the "Sevres" hallmark however it was found in an estate with two additional marked dinner plates (see: http://www.ebay.com/itm/311562757705 ). Clean, gently used example.
