Offered here is an authentic 19th-century tintype photograph housed in its original thermoplastic / gutta-percha Union case. The oval image is beautifully presented behind a gilt metal mat with floral detailing.
The photograph depicts a Victorian era family group portrait, likely dating to the 1860s–1880s.
Seated are the parents with their four children, including a young boy holding a wooden paddle.
Image appears in very good condition, has not been opened. The brass mat shows typical age patina. The case interior features a velvet pad with decorative scrollwork, though there is visible staining and wear. The exterior of the case displays surface wear, edge rubbing, and finish loss consistent with age.
