ANTIQUE TURKISH OTTOMAN EMPIRE SILVER ZARF TUGHRA MARK
Offered here is an Antique fine quality Ottoman Empire solid silver Zarf that we believe to be made during the 1795 to 1840. Our age determination is based on the fact that the design is very English, and it copies the look of an English monteith. Monteiths were popular during the Georgian period.
Zarfs were coffee cup holders used during the period of the Ottoman Empire.
They could be made out of a variety of materials such as bone, wood or coconut. This one is skillfully made and would have belonged to a wealthy family.
Highest quality Antique Ottoman Solid silver Zarf that is a fine piece of ancient Islamic treasure.
Beautifully proportioned with a height of 2 1/8 and weighs 41.3 grams. We have shown it wil a glass egg inside to show scale.
We are not able to read the Tughra mark to see if it matchs with our estimate of age. It is hallmarked in 2 places, on the rim and on a corner of the foot. Spiral ring on foot moves freely.
