Offered here is a stunning antique shell cameo set in gold filled, featuring a carving of the biblical character Rebecca at the Well and surrounding scenery.
This amazing piece dates back to early Victorian times, circa 1860's and is in very good condition. The shell cameo is well carved featuring a woman resting against stone well with a valley scene in the background.
The low gold border of the cameo features a decorative scalloped edge accented with faux beadwork. The back of the cameo is completely encased in gold filled , and features a pin back that swings freely on a hinge and closes with a safety catch. The back also has a eyelet on the bottom, perhaps for hanging a charm or decorative piece to accent the cameo's beauty. The actual cameo measures 1.55" h x 1.25"w and the slanted border measures about 8mm wide. The entire piece measures just under 2" high and 1.6" wide.
The cameo is in nice condition with a small chip from the top, and some hairlines at the top as well. 2" high and 1.6" wide. There are some small gaps on the gold filled metal in the back , but in no way take away from the beauty or integrity of the piece this old!
