Vintage 1935 Mobiloil Advertising Poster – SS Normandie Ocean Liner

Framed original French advertising poster for Mobiloil, featuring the iconic Art Deco illustration of the SS Normandie ocean liner. The poster reads “Au cœur du paquebot Normandie” (“At the heart of the liner Normandie”) and showcases the grandeur of the vessel’s bow with the Mobiloil logo prominently displayed. Artwork signed Piaubert with a printed Dam printer’s mark.

This example comes from the estate of a former Mobil Oil vice president and is professionally framed under glass in a textured wood frame with blue/red matting. Paper shows expected age toning and light handling consistent with an original 1930s print. A pencil note on the reverse reads “1935,” corresponding with the Normandie’s maiden years. During World War II, the Normandie was seized in New York by U.S. authorities and renamed USS Lafayette. In 1942, while undergoing conversion into a troopship, the vessel caught fire, rolled onto her port side, and settled half-submerged on the bottom of the Hudson River at Pier 88—the present site of the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
