Vintage 1950’s Tonka Toys Logging Truck & Trailer with Logs

Here we have a 1950's Tonka Toys/Mound Metalcraft Inc. Logging Truck with Trailer and Load. Made from pressed steel for the truck and trailer, plastic for the bound logs that come with it.

Tonka originally started as "Mound Metalcraft," a gardening tools company, in the fall of 1946 in Mound, Minnesota. It was founded by Lynn Everett Baker (1898–1964), Avery F. Crounse, and Alvin F. Tesch in an old schoolhouse. The building had previously been occupied by the Streater Company, which had designed and patented various toys, including toy trucks. However, E. C. Streater had no interest in continuing the toy business, so he approached Mound Metalcraft. The founders saw the opportunity to produce toys as a potential complement to their primary product line. Mound Metalcraft eventually changed their name in 1955 to "Tonka". We believe this particular piece could have potentially been produced as early at 1950, but not later than 1954.

Dimensions: Truck: 16.75" L x 6.75" W x 7" H ; Trailer: 14"L x 6"W x 4.5"H

This lot is in generally good shape for a 70+ year old toy intended for young boys. A lot of the paint wear you would expect; most pronounced on the bumper, and on the back of the truck where the truck connects to the trailer. Bottom of the unit is in really good shape. No major dents, some rust spots. Stickers are still intact but have some cuts.
