Here we have a Vintage 1967 Guitarra de Tamura Venus Classical Guitar w a Hiroshi Tamura signed label. Holy solar system, I've never heard a guitar sound so beautiful in my entire life. I was never a classical guy, but this piece is one heck of an exception. It feels so natural to play. It's comfortable for both hands, and I found it way more natural to finger-pick compared to other acoustic guitars. And for the record, I'm a bull in a china shop when it comes to finger picking guitars.

*Summary & History*

This guitar, crafted in 1967 by Hiroshi Tamura, exemplifies the expertise of one of Japan's most renowned luthiers. Its exceptional sound is a testament to his legendary craftsmanship.

Hiroshi Tamura, along with his brother Mitsuru, mastered the art of guitar making during their time in Spain in the late 1950s and early 1960s. After returning to Japan, the Tamura brothers began creating world-class classical and flamenco guitars that rivaled the best instruments from renowned Spanish luthiers.

During the 1960s, the brothers likely shared a workshop in Kochi, Japan. While both were equally skilled, Hiroshi achieved greater international acclaim, earning numerous awards that even surpassed those of Masaru Kohno. Hiroshi’s guitars, often praised as superior to those of José Ramírez, earned him the nickname "Tamirez."

In 1972, Hiroshi received recognition and financial support from Japan’s Ministry of Technology, which allowed him to expand his operations and cater to international demand. Despite producing a greater number of guitars during this period, Hiroshi personally crafted only his top-tier models. Mitsuru, meanwhile, continued as an independent luthier, creating fewer guitars that became rare and highly sought after over time.

By the mid-1970s, Hiroshi faced financial difficulties, scaling back his production and returning to a smaller workshop with a limited team. Both brothers passed away in the mid-1980s, leaving behind a legacy of instruments celebrated for their unparalleled craftsmanship and sound.

This guitar showcases Hiroshi Tamura’s remarkable ability to blend tradition and innovation. Though inspired by José Ramírez designs, it is far more than a replica. Its sound—distinctly Spanish, warm, sweet, and lyrical—stands out for its clarity, note separation and sustain, rivaling even the finest guitars by Paulino Bernabé. It is a masterful instrument that embodies the best of Japanese luthiery.
