Vintage Hand Made Brass & Applied Mixed Metal Copper Silver Tea Caddy Etrog Box
Unusual vintage hand constructed brass based and applied mixed metal coated tea caddy/etrog box, c1900-1930, origins appearing to belong to a region in the Middle East. Slightly elongated hexagonal shape. Flat bottom. Hinged lid. Oval bail ring handles on both ends. The box's base layer is brass, while several unique applied copper and silver cut-out geometric shapes add depth and a layered, textural aesthetic appeal. A brass stem attached to the top lid acts as a pully. Example is unsigned on the underside. Interior shows an unfinished brass base.
Measures 5 3/4" High x 5 1/4" Long x 4 5/8" Wide.
Good to very good, showing surface wear/scratching and age-related cosmetic issues to the brass bass and applied decoration. Green residue can be seen on some of the seams. The hinge is secure but is a little bit shaky. The piece does not rest completely flat and it's shape is not entirely asymmetrical, but this is often the nature of hand made items. Interior shows additional wear. Bail-ring handles tightly connected.
