Vintage Pair Beswick Staffordshire Dog “Wally Dugs” Hearth Spaniels MantelPiece Scotland
Here we have a vintage of pair of Staffordshire Dogs (“Wally Dugs” in Scotland) by Beswick. Also referred to as Hearth Spaniels or Fireplace Dogs. Beswick is well known for their long sought after Ceramics since their start around WWI. From the Wally Dugs, to Horses, to Disney Characters; everyone has encountered a Beswick piece.
The spaniels are white with gold painting. The dogs have gold locks and chains painted around their collars. Pieces are marked 1378-4, produced in England. Beswick was later bought by Doulton Co. in 1969.
Production for these pieces is dated somewhere between 1948-1954.
Each figure measures roughly 9.5” H x 6” W x 3” D
Very Good condition, no obvious chipping or cracks on viewable area of the dogs. The bottoms of the pieces show more wear, but nothing noticeable from standard position. All bottom markings seem to associated with being occasionally moved whilst on a mantle. That being said, very minimal wear.
