Vintage WW2 Navy Ship Compass Gimbal Maritime Militaria Wooden Case Mounted
We are offering a vintage WW2 era Navy ship’s compass, measuring about 3.75” tall and 4.75” x 4.75” wide.
This is a gimbal compass mounted in a wood box with a lid that closes with two hooks and nails. The lid has a plexiglass top to view the face of the compass, and has been painted black and possibly repaired at some point before it came to us.
The compass is marked “M.C. Co.” on the north point. This is a gimbal maritime compass, meaning it has gyroscopic capabilities and is meant to be anchored down in the cockpit of a ship. We believe this compass was used by the US Navy. This piece is the perfect addition to any collection.
Good to very good condition with expected weathering and age-related wear. This piece was most likely modified at some point before we received it. The compass still tends north.
