We are extremely proud to offer this wonderful, iconic single owner 1951 Vintage Gibson ES-175N Electric Hollow Body Jazz Box Guitar in her original Natural Blonde finish with Original Black P-90 Pickup & OHSC by Lifton~She’s A Beast Jazzbox in VG/Excellent Condition.

DESCRIPTION:

Features original white label with Serial # A-7498, FON #6566 3, dating to a production run of just 664 ES-175s in 1951. Classic single double dog ear P-90 single coil pickup configuration. Incredibly smooth action with almost unbelievable tone. Very warm, full, and a beautiful brightness that’s easy on the ears. Low noise. We can see why this guitar is viewed as an iconic Golden Age jazz classic, but don’t be boxed in…..this guitar has a very distinct sound that just screams for all different background musicians to mix their magic (and pedal array) with it. The “F” holes are worth mic’ing in a studio setting for a fuller sound profile. The large, early-1950s “C” carved neck profile is highly sought after for its substantial, comfortable grip & ease of playability.

Recently given a full inspection & pro setup by our luthier, Dave Fecca Guitar Repair of Moorestown, NJ and is ready to play, record & gig!

Condition:
Overall:

Very good vintage condition with honest playwear consistent with age. This axe is now 75 years young.

Obviously, there is no longer any pick guard. Original guard off-gassed years ago & the owner removed it. Did leave an unsightly stain immediately above the top of the treble bout “f” hole. Our luthier polished it out as much as possible & now it’s just a minor blemish. Also, we reinstalled her original black P-90 double dog eared single coil pickup which was in the case pocket. Past owner had removed that & placed an unknown modern chrome humbucker in its rout. Bridge has more than likely also been changed from the typical compensated rosewood bridge that this model generally is supplied with. Now, she’s fully intonatable. The original lower strap pin is included, but will need to be re-glued & possibly a screw inserted for a good quality repair.

Imperfections we noted are:

Body (Front):

  • Small nick near tailpiece and additional nick toward center
  • Two small nicks at approx. 6:30 position
  • Light “rash” near lower f-hole
  • Small nick left of upper f-hole
  • Two light scrape marks near upper left edge

Body (Bottom/Edges):

  • Light scratching on left side

Neck & Fretboard:

  • Loads of meat left on her original fret wire
  • Inlays show light wear but remain solid
  • Back of neck has scattered small nicks/scratches, heavier toward heel
  • Minor finish wear/peel at heel edge

Sides:

  • Light speckling on lower right side
  • Binding shows minor wear

Headstock:

  • Surface scratches on front
  • Minor edge wear and small nicks

Tuners:

  • Original Klusons w tulip buttons, having visible patination
  • Buttons show age/use but remain functional and stable
  • Guitar is exceptionally clean, our pix don’t truly do this instrument justice. Loads of meat left on her original fretwire, no cracks, breaks, or any other major or minor issues, whatsoever.
  • Investment caliber instrument in her rare, natural finish.
