Synapse Series No. 1 Aqua Blue

Add a splash of vibrant color to your home or work space with this unique piece of modern wall art. In what started as the first addition to my Synapse series, the inspiration behind this painting came from a microscopic image I came across while reading an article about consciousness. The photo behind my inspiration showed beautifully colored neurons and neuronal connections in flashes of brilliant greens, blues, pinks, yellows and reds, each color corresponding to different fluorescent structures within the image. I wanted to capture that sense of synaptic connection between neurons and neural tissue.

For the first painting in the series, I chose an aquamarine blue colored abstract background with varying shades of black and gray tones. Some lines are soft with thinner areas of black paint while others are much darker. Throughout the series, I played with the ideas of shape, form, shading and space. For example, I often focused on differing sizes of the connecting lines and forms in addition to linear proximity. This painting in particular features thinner more dynamic curves with varying opacity. There aren't as many solid black forms compared to other paintings in the series, but this painting singularly features the most connecting curves. Hover with your eyes on any individual section of the painting and notice how some of the shapes and lines move toward each other while others oppose each other in movement.
