Antique 800 Silver Hanau Satyr Northwind Paw Feet w Cherubs 1880s Candle Stick Rococo
We are offering a lovely 1880's antique 800 silver Hanau single 2 part candle stick. Features many designs- embossed lotus fans,half moons, cherubs, satyr /Northwind face for legs which end in an animal paw foot. The handles have an open mouth satyr/Northwind face design. A family crest/initials are engraved .
Hanau production is characterised by a fantastic combination of different styles, often blending elements from Rococo Watteauesque scenes with Baroque and Renaissance elements, or creating impressive and original Gothic-revival pieces
The candlestick is beautifully executed. The designer used a thin sheet of 800 silver to create this Rococo masterpiece, so the candlestick has a lighter feel to it. Weighs 266.4 grams.
Hanau silverware is distinguished by a highly decorative design; the items are profusely chased, engraved, pierced and embossed.
The top part of the candlestick comes off. First we thought it did not belong, but upon research , it is definitely the matching top. Probably made to be interchanged with different tops.
Beautiful piece! There is minimal age related wear/ dings. Sits a little uneven, however, nothing that takes away from the desirability of this antique piece.
