Antique Capodimonte 1800's Goddess Diana & Flora Classical Figurines Italy 8.75
Offered here are two stunning late 1800's ,19th century Capodimonte figurines. The first represents the Roman Goddess Diana well known as the Goddess of the hunt, the moon and birth. She was associated with wild animals and woodland.
In this rendering, she is the huntress with one arm holding her bow while the other is rising to fetch an arrow from her quiver.
Diana is in very good condition with one defect - the bow has broken off and been glued back. The second represents Flora, the Roman Goddess of flowers and the season of spring.
A relatively minor figure in Roman mythology, she was one of several fertility goddesses. However, her association with the spring gave her importance at the coming of springtime. Her festival, the Floralia, was held between April 28 and May 3 and symbolized the renewal of the cycle of life.
She is in good condition with the loss of her right hand which makes this figure reminiscent of ancient statues that have lost a limb or two. They would be a very nice addition to any discriminating household or collection.
Measures approximately: (Diana) 8 3/4" (height) x 3 1/2" (width) x 3" (depth), (Nymph) (7 1/2" (height) x 3 1/4" (width) x 3 1/2 (depth).
