Antique Carter’s glass inkwell bottle dating to circa late 19th century, finished in a dark olive green glass with strong iridescent age patina. Embossed base reading “CARTER’S 1897 MADE IN U.S.A.” Early examples like this were used for dip pen and fountain pen inks during the late Victorian period.
The Carter’s Ink Company, founded in Boston in 1858 by William Carter, became one of the most recognized American ink manufacturers of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Their inks were commonly used in schools, offices, banks, and homes throughout the United States.
