Antique Art Deco Large Germany Carved Black Forest Wood Jewelry Box 1920s Handwritten Note
We are offering an antique hand carved German black forest jewelry box/ misc box , measuring about 11.25”x7.5”x5.5” and 2.5” deep. There are two tiers inside with the first being removable, both lined in a bright blue felt. The outside is carved with a beautiful floral pattern. All hand made wide dovetails. Great bun feet.
This piece is the perfect addition to any collection.
Written in script inside the lid is a lovely message, translated from German as “Greetings from Germany! From the Neumann family of Ulotha(?) o/w Dedicated as a grateful acknowledgement for gifts of love shown in difficult times (1924)”.
Good condition with age-related wear. There is no longer a lock on the outside of the box, and the lid no longer lays perfectly flat, though it does close completely. There is lovely 100+ year old wear to the finish of the wood, particularly on the front and along the edges of the piece. On the bottom there is a crack in the grain that is most likely a result of the aging of the wood.
