Antique Elgin American Manufacturing Co. match safe featuring a handsome Art Deco and gold-washed interior. The interior retaining bar is stamped with Elgin American’s distinctive arrow-through “E.A.M.” trademark along with “MADE IN U.S.A.”
The case has engraved floral and foliate borders, A serial or production number, appearing to read 050656, is stamped inside the lid.
No sterling, gold-filled, or precious-metal fineness mark is visible in the photographs, so the case is best described as a plated metal example with gold wash.

Condition: Antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear throughout. Exterior shows scratches, scuffs, rubbing, oxidation/tarnish and areas of finish wear. The gold wash to the interior shows fading, discoloration and spotting from age and use. Interior surfaces have additional scratching and oxidation. Engraved and engine-turned decoration remains well defined overall. Hinge and retaining bar are present, and the case opens and closes as shown.
