Antique Hand-Painted Composition Turkey Figurine – Early 20th Century Folk / Putz Style
This is an early hand-made and painted German composition putz turkey figurine, likely dating to the early 1900s (circa 1900–1930). The figure is sculpted in a dense molded composition material and finished with original hand-applied paint. It features a strutting turkey pose with a broad fanned tail, textured feather detailing, and a boldly painted red wattle and head. Work is consistent with German town of Erzgebirge Putz-style holiday figures, which were commonly used as mantel, tabletop, or seasonal display pieces. The legs and feet are separately formed and painted, giving the figure a stable standing posture.
*Condition*
Structurally intact; paint loss, surface wear, and patina present (see photos. Paint shows expected age wear, scattered loss, and surface patina throughout, particularly on the tail and body—entirely consistent with early composition figures of this type. No modern repairs observed. The surface texture, weight, and wear strongly suggest authentic period manufacture rather than a later reproduction.
