Notes / identification:
Renoir produced several prints of this subject in 1894. The third plate, D.8, is the small format most often encountered and is recorded in two states; almost all market impressions (including this one based on the dense reworked background) are state II (final). Subjects are traditionally identified as Julie Manet and Paulette Gobillard.
