Antique Bourbon Period Speranza -Hope 22k Gold Sapphire Ruby Cross 1800 Necklace
The item up for offer is a rare and stunning antique Borbonica Bourbon period solid 22k yellow gold, natural and untreated sapphire and ruby cross pendant with a 12k GF curb chain necklace.
The pendant is antique and solid 22k yellow gold, the chain necklace is 12k gf and not original to this piece. This piece is marked "18k" on the bail (not original, added later), and the cross features a "S" in the middle.
The "S" is for Speranza, which means HOPE. Very rare early Italian cross!
The chain is marked "1/20 12k". The cross has additionally been acid tested as being solid 22k yellow gold.
Gold was light in weight as gold was hard to come by. Pre 1854, jewelry was only fabricated in 22 and 18kt.
Note: under regular lights, the untreated sapphires are dark blue , but outside or if you shine a light through them, the natural gemstone striations and beauty come through. The rubies are natural and a pretty red-pink.
