ANTIQUE STEREOVIEW CARD CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS REAL PHOTOS

Offered here are 2 beautifully rendered antique stereo viewing cards made for the antique novelty "stereo opticon", or "stereo viewer". These cards feature different turn of the century scenes of "a child's Christmas"; "Brother John's First Christmas", shows a baby nestled in his crib, playing with a toy trumpet, lace and holly decorate the background. Also, "Christmas Morning and you are not awake!", a young girl is fast asleep in her beautifully quilted bed, extravagant wallpaper and lace curtains hang in the background. Joined by her doll, and a small Jack Russell, a small twig of holly also lays beside her on the pillow. Wonderful festive Victorian detail. These stereo views were parlor devices in which you placed a viewing card at the end - Each card had two photographs set on one card, both at a slightly different angle, which, when seen through the stereo viewer, gives the perception of depth and dimension to the picture. It is quite phenomenal to look through today, so one can only imagine the magically delightful effect this period novelty must have had in its own time. Their height of popularity was roughly from 1880-1920. Many of the cards had of exotic and interesting subjects.

These 3 1/2" by 7" stock cards usually came in sets, such as "Views of Yellowstone Park" or "Travels in Italy". These specific cards were made by the "Keystone View Company", who put out a wide range of turn of the century genre's. Many of the cards had of exotic and interesting subjects.

This set of cards were made in 1899.

Marked "9464-Christmas morning and you are not awake!", and "9461 - Brother John's first christmas". Done by the "Keystone View Company, Manufactureres & publishers, Meadville, Pa., St Louis, Mo. Copyright 1896-99, by B.L.Singley."
