The item up for offer is a set of 2 tribal African ebony wood carved sculptures. The first sculpture is that of a womans head. This piece is very regal in nature and is the work of a master craftsman. The femail bust has braided hair and elongated earlobes. The second carving is that of a male face mask. This piece features a headress and a prominant chin. On the back of the mask is a wire loop to allow this piece to be hung on a wall. Both of the pieces ar unmarked.
Ebony is a dense black hardwood, most commonly yielded by several different species in the genus Diospyros, which also contains the persimmons. Ebony is dense enough to sink in water. It is finely-textured and has a very smooth finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood.
