Antique Victorian 1884 Embroidered Quilt Silk Textile Art - Museum Quality Flowers Beautiful!
We are offering a Museum quality antique embroidered quilt, measuring about 73” x . 82" This piece is made up of gorgeous embroidered panels, most likely silk, edged with velvet, with all except one including a name or initials.
72 squares . Each measures 8.5" by 8.5", with pretty embroidery embellishments around each square. Some trapunto roses with embroidery!
All hand done. Such a labor of love!
This quilt is really a work of art; such fine craftsmanship, one can only imagine the amount of time invested in this beauty!
The back is a thicker silk or shiny cotton fabric. The quilt is attached to the underside with an “x” stitch. The colors ar different shades of reds, black, blue , burgundy, pink, green, white, topaz.
We believe this quilt to be a family tree. It is embroidered “Tacy Lukens” on one of the squares. We feel this is the lady who made the gorgeous quilt.
Decorative stitches separate each colorful square from the one next to it, and each square has its own design, some embroidered and a few painted.
Based on the year included on a few of the squares, we have dated the piece to 1884. With the surname Lukens, we believe this piece is from Pennsylvania, Montgomery County. Perhaps this was done as a marriage quilt. Done by the many ladies in the family! According to old records, Tracy Lukens was married in 1884.
This is a lovely piece of history, and the perfect addition to any collection. Please note. The color of the back is darker than the pictures show.
Very good condition with some age-related wear. The back lining and border are mostly intact, with some small tears and spots of discoloration. There is some wear to a few squares in particular. It is to be expected with this age silk. No odor. Stored away in a trunk .Please inspect the photos carefully for the full condition. We are limited on picture space, please contact us for more close ups.
