The piece was hand blown and features a fluted, ribbed pattern on top which leads to a thinner middle neck and then finally opens back up into an squeezed ellipsoid base. A unpolished patch constitutes the pontil which indicates that the vase was in fact hand blown. The term “Jack in the pulpit” refers to a certain species of flower called Arisaema triphyllum common to eastern North America which has an interesting open hooded flower.
