Lot of 18 Original Railroad Negatives – Virginian Railway Steam & Electric Locomotives (Circa 1941)

This is a remarkable collection of original black-and-white photographic negatives featuring Virginian Railway locomotives, including both steam and electric power, dating from the early-mid-20th century. The Virginian Railway (VGN) operated from 1907 until its merger into the Norfolk & Western in 1959. It was famed for its heavy coal trains, massive steam engines, and distinctive electric locomotives used in mountainous territory. Images like these are scarce survivals, especially in original negative form.

Contents of the Lot:
-
Approx. 18 negatives housed in numbered sleeves.

-Subjects include: Steam locomotives (notably articulated classes such as 2-8-8-2, 2-10-10-2, and others), Electric locomotives used by the Virginian in coal and freight service, Yard and line shots showing locomotives in service, posed, and under overhead structures. Accompanied by a typed reference card listing Virginian locomotive numbers and wheel arrangements.
