Primal Series No. 1: Primal Fire
Come cozy up by the hearth and let this original abstract painting promote a relaxing sense of warmth and positive energy for you as it has for me. Intense bursts of a fiery cadmium red mix with dark alizarin crimson shadows, neutral grays and splashes of lustrous gold to give this original creation a life of its own.
As an emerging artist, I've striven to pour my heart into my paintings and to let each one communicate its own unique message and emotions. The first painting in my Primal series, the inspiration evolved from a nostalgic sense of childhood reverie. Growing up on the east coast in the US allowed me to experience the profound differences in seasonal changes. Often in the late fall and winter months when it became bitterly cold outside, my father would make fires in our small living room fireplace. I would spend many hours chatting and laughing together with family and friends, and other hours in quiet contemplation, relishing the warmth and the peaceful energy that the hearth would consistently provide. I wanted to capture as much of that warm, almost transcendental and meditative energy that sitting by a fire can invoke.
Throughout the series I attempted to convey bold darker lines of shadow colors interspersed with lighter colors flowing freely on top. Each piece in the series started with an abstract under-painting of neutral gray rectangular shapes which is still visible in various places helping to make the top layers of color really pop. A heavy dusting of gold and silver glitter was also added as the paint was drying to bring about shimmering reflections when viewing the painting from different angles or in differing light conditions.
