Primal Series No. 2: Primal Ice
 
Come stand by the river, close your eyes and feel the cold, icy wind blow across your face. The second painting in my Primal series, Primal Ice finds its inspiration in the beauty of frozen water in all its natural forms. From snow capped glaciers and frozen lakes to snowflake coated meadows and spiny icicles on rooftops, this original creation captures the essence of ice in all its splendor.

The first painting of the Primal series focused more on warmer shades of color with reds and gold while this second piece contrasts nicely in cooler blues and silver tones. Throughout the series I attempted to convey bold darker lines of shadow colors interspersed with lighter colors flowing freely on top.

Each piece in the series started with an abstract under-painting of neutral gray rectangular shapes which is still visible in various places helping to make the top layers of color really pop. A light dusting of silver glitter was also added as the paint was drying to bring about shimmering reflections when viewing the painting from different angles or in differing light conditions.
