Primal Series No. 3: Primal Jungle
Take my hand and let me guide you on an adventure into the unknown depths of the Jungle. The third addition to my Primal series, this painting draws its inspiration from the colorfully mysterious and richly biodiverse environments that we call jungles. Jungles have always been some of the most densely populated regions on earth regarding species richness and biodiversity among both flora and fauna. I chose shades of green with intricate additions of gold to symbolize growth, richness and light.
Throughout the series I attempted to convey bold darker lines of shadow colors interspersed with lighter colors flowing freely on top. Here we see emerald colored linear shadows contrasting with the liveliness of the vibrant green drips and lustrous gold.
Each piece in the series started with an abstract under-painting of neutral gray rectangular shapes which is still visible in various places helping to make the top layers of color really pop. A light dusting of gold and silver glitter was also added as the paint was drying to bring about shimmering reflections when the painting is viewed from different angles or in different light conditions.
