Vintage 1912-1972 Wilkinson Calgary Canada Mounted Police Presentation Sword Queen Elizabeth II England

Queen Elizabeth II, on a visit to Calgary, came to Canada in 1973 to celebrate the 60th Aniversary (1912 to 1972) of the Mounted Police, presented this sword to the Alberta Canadian Supreme Court Justice Harold Riley, son of Thomas E. Riley  of Calgary. The sword was handed down in the family to his grandson. The Riley family were one of the original families that settled  in the Wild West of Calgary.

There were 2 swords presented  by Queen Elizabeth during the Royal visit. (International buyers- please contact us to see if we can ship this to your country.)

We are offering a vintage Calgary Canada etched sword by Wilkinson, measuring about 43.25” long (34” long measuring just the blade) and 8.5” wide at the crossguard. We suspect it to be full tang but we do not know for sure. This sword was made for display and the blade is etched with scenes representing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police along with their seal. The seal is also on the pommel.

Info:

"The Calgary Stampede celebrated 60 years, with Premier Peter Lougheed opening the Diamond Jubilee extravaganza.

One of the new features at the grounds that year was the Canadome 72, a geodesic dome-shaped tent, in which Information Canada bilingually explained the workings of government. The display was meant to take a light-hearted look at the Canadian people and their elected representatives, attempting to poke holes some of the stereotypes Canadians had created, and at the same time trying to promote Canadian unity.

In July 1973, Queen Elizabeth visited Alberta and Saskatchewan in honour of the RCMP’s centennial. Duties included opening a new RCMP museum in Regina and officially opening the Calgary Stampede."

The piece is marked “By Appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Sword Cutlers/ Wilkinson Sword London/ Made in England”.

This piece is the perfect addition to any collection. Great wall decoration!
