Vintage 1965 W. Cortland Butterfield Signed Limited Edition Lithograph Clown Dog 2/200

Description:

Offered here is a vintage 1965 limited edition lithograph by noted American artist W. Cortland Butterfield (1904–1977). This expressive black and white composition depicts one of Butterfield's signature subjects—a melancholy clown accompanied by a small dog.

The lithograph is numbered 2/200 and signed/inscribed in the lower right, dated 1965. It is presented under glass with a wide gray-green mat in a simple black wood frame.

W. Cortland Butterfield was an American painter, illustrator, and printmaker born in Newark, New Jersey. He studied at Cooper Union, the Art Students League of New York, and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Throughout his career he exhibited widely and became well known for his portraits, figurative works, and expressive depictions of performers, musicians, and clowns. His artwork is represented in numerous private and institutional collections.

The framed piece measures approximately:
16" wide × 26" high × 3/4" deep
Approx Show Space: 9 1/4" x 19"

Condition:

Very good vintage display condition. The lithograph presents well with no obvious damage visible through the glass. The black frame exhibits scattered surface scratches, edge wear, and minor finish loss consistent with age and handling. The paper dust cover on the reverse has tearing and losses at the top, though this does not affect the artwork itself. Hanging wire is attached and ready for display.
