Here we have a beautiful Japanese Kutani-style porcelain vase decorated in the Kara-e (Chinese-style) tradition. The vase features a vivid red enamel ground with designs in turquoise, gold, and cobalt blue. The geometric “pinwheel” medallion pattern is carefully outlined in gilt and arranged in repeating rows, framed by blue-and-white borders at the rim and foot. The square seal on the base—written in traditional Chinese characters—is a decorative Qianlong reign-style mark, commonly used in mid-century Japanese porcelain to honor earlier Chinese art forms.
