Antique Japanese Meiji Period Mixed Metal Bird & Floral Letter Opener Handle
Antique Japanese mixed-metal letter opener or page turner handle likely dating to the Meiji period, circa 1868-1912. Design of birds amid flowering branches, leaves and blossoms, executed in raised and applied contrasting metals over a dark patinated copper-alloy ground.
The original blade or page-turning portion is no longer present, leaving the decorative handle offered here as a surviving fragment. Displays attractive age-related patination, surface wear, oxidation and minor losses consistent with age and use. Please see photos for condition and detail.
