Vintage 1972 Fender Jazz Bass in her original natural finish w OHSC. SN #363781, built in Fullerton, CA. This is a single owner guitar & was purchased new in 1973.
Today we have an incredible sounding 1972 Fender Jazz Bass in her original natural finish. Also included is her original Fender hardshell case, that has been her home for the past 54 years.
This is a striking early-1970s example with decades of genuine play wear, creating a natural, heavily relic’’d appearance that simply cannot be duplicated artificially.
Classic Jazz Bass layout with offset-waist solid body, slim maple neck, bound maple fingerboard with black rectangular block position inlays, four individual Fender tuning machines, dual pickups, two volume controls and master tone control. The neck is secured by a four-bolt Fender “F” neck plate stamped with serial number 363781. One of the most notable things (out of many) about this bass is the thin profile neck. Very comfortable and playable.
The bass has undergone several period/player modifications. The original owner replaced the original bridge with a BADASS BASS II bridge. Also, changed both of the Fender pickups to DiMarzio replacements circa-1979
Included is the original Fender hardshell case with black exterior and orange plush-lined interior, interior accessory compartment and an American flag attached inside the lid.

CONDITION:
This bass is in heavily played vintage condition with extensive authentic age and use wear throughout. It presents as a true natural relic rather than a cosmetically preserved example. The Natural finish exhibits numerous scratches, scuffs, dings, dents, finish checking, worn areas and substantial finish loss exposing the wood beneath. Particularly pronounced wear is visible around the outer body edges and lower bout, as well as a large irregular worn area on the back extending from the neck-plate area toward the upper horn. Additional edge wear along the sides.
The neck shows considerable honest playing wear, discoloration, darkened areas and scattered marks along the back. The headstock has edge wear, small chips, scratches and finish loss. The maple fingerboard shows wear, staining and age-related marks, while the black block inlays and frets exhibit normal-to-heavy signs of use. One inlaid marker has previously been repaired. Guitar plays almost effortlessly, & intonation & string height were set to specs.
The white pickguard displays age discoloration, scratches, marks and wear. The pickup covers have yellowed with age and show staining and wear around the pole pieces and mounting hardware. The chrome control plate is heavily scratched and shows oxidation, spotting and surface wear. Knobs show use wear. The Badass Bass II bridge has some scratches, tarnish, oxidation and age-related surface wear, while the Fender tuning machines likewise show spotting patina.
The bass was professionally serviced and given a basic pro setup, including neck and action adjustment, intonation setting, tuner servicing, fret work, extensive electronics cleaning, installation of foam beneath the pickups for improved adjustment, pickup-height adjustment, and repair of a bulged/cracked area with a lifting inlay that was glued, clamped and detailed. The repair shop also serviced seized/fused bridge components, with particular attention to the saddle screws.
The original hardshell case shows expected age and use wear. The orange plush interior remains present with the accessory compartment intact and an American flag affixed to the inside of the lid. 2/3 of the front latches on the case do not operate properly. Replacing them is recommended.
Overall, this is an exceptional example of a heavily played 1972 Fender Jazz Bass with documented period modifications, recent professional servicing and tremendous natural wear. She’s oozing w Moxie, mojo, charisma, etc. It is not a collector-grade untouched example; it is a genuine vintage player with over five decades of history visibly written across the wood and hardware — a true natural relic.
