Antique M.E. O’Brien Philadelphia Blob Top Beer Bottle Aqua Glass 1800s

Antique embossed aqua glass blob top beer bottle from M.E. O’Brien of Philadelphia. This hand-blown bottle features a classic 19th century blob-top form with heavy glass construction and embossed lettering reading “M.E. O’Brien” and a large, cool “B.” The bottle retains a strong dug appearance with substantial surface wear, haze, mineralization, and attractive iridescence throughout from long-term age and ground exposure. Sold as found.

Philadelphia blob beer bottles like this were commonly used by local breweries and bottlers during the late 1800s, prior to the widespread adoption of crown-top bottles. The thick applied blob lip was designed for wired cork closures used to contain carbonated beverages. The aqua coloration, embossing, and pontil-era style construction make this a solid example of early American brewing and soda history.
